A LIFE OF CHOICES
What does it take to become an adult with a disability whose life is full of success, love and meaningful roles in their community? Three videos tell stories with lessons for all.
What is the essence of success for people with disabilities? Inclusion – the full participation needed to achieve our maximum capacity for work, enjoyment, and contribution. Transition – the support and opportunity needed to create as independent and typical a lifestyle as possible.
"LIFE OF CHOICES SERIES" highlights the need for inclusion and the support needed for transitions through real lives and stories. Click above to order the stage of life you want as the focus of your learning or training:
BETSY’S STORY tells with unflinching honesty of the partnership that must exist between a child with cerebral palsy and family members to create a world of inclusion and to prepare and make the transitions needed to lead a full life. Betsy pushes the boundaries, defies limitations and challenges barriers in a quiet determination to seek the same joys, responsibilities, and roles as her peers without wheelchairs or disabilities. Betsy’s mother tells of working hard every day to give up control and prepare for the next transition. Pre-release charge of $15 plus shipping.
DONNIE’S STORY shares the inevitable despairs and delights of an adult with disabilities who grew up in an institution as he moves into the community. From memories of the Milledgeville institution to his first pay check, Donnie experience reveals the path and the supports needed for major transitions. Whether you need to educate institutional staff to the value of community living, employers to the value of work, community to the value of inclusion or future professionals to transitions, Donnie’s story delivers a powerful and effective message. Shipping is included in the $39.95 cost.
LOIS & ELAINE’S STORY takes the reader from the back wards of an institution for people with developmental disabilities to the halls of the United States Supreme Court. Two women with disabilities wanted to live in the community. An attorney fought for their rights. They won inclusion for all people with disabilities. But, that’s really when this story started… learn how they found the best places to live and followed their natural talents to entrepreneurship. Shipping is included in the $39.95 cost.
