ADA AMENDMENT ACT
Department of Justice Seal

Wednesday, June 25, 2008, the House passed a major civil rights bill that would overturn several Supreme Court decisions issued in the last decade and restore the bill to its original intent. The ADA Amendments Act (H.R. 3195) passed 402 to 17 (234 Democrats, 199 Republicans) and sent a strong message that discrimination against individuals with disabilities will not be tolerated. Supporters of the bill immediately shifted their attention to the Senate, which is expected to pass a similar bipartisan measure. The White House said that although President Bush "supports the overall intent" of the House bill, he was concerned that it "could unduly expand" coverage and significantly increase litigation.  AUCD continues to support the ADA Amendment Act and work with the disability community to successfully pass this important legislation.

    AGTEEN PROJECT AT IHDD
    AgTeen Family Guide

Agricultural production, including farming, consistently ranks among the industries with the highest rates of work-related injuries and deaths in the U.S. It is unique with respect to children and adolescents. Youth, children and adolescents, who commonly work on farms are exposed to agricultural production hazards.

Through the AgTeen project, information from farm families is being compiled to expand the knowledge base for the development and implementation of effective and appropriate intervention strategies .

Adults are the primary agent for determining the safety of youth on farms. Understanding and identifying the factors which cause adults to adopt protective activities for youth on their farms or cease activities which increase risk for youth are important to prevention efforts.  Identifying barriers and developing methods for overcoming these barriers are essential to successful intervention efforts.
