New York

The NYC Fashion Tour Maymester Program offers fashion merchandising and furnishings and interiors students a chance to learn about the fashion industry in New York City. Through professional visits, fashion merchandising students learn about e-commerce, digital marketing, trend analysis, brand conceptualization and sustainable fashion practices. They familiarize themselves with various fashion auxiliary services, the best practices of social media use in the fashion industry and about launching fashion startups, among many others. Students will also have the opportunity to meet designers of global design houses, stylists, makeup artists, runway models etc. Furnishings and interiors students get to visit a variety of showrooms within the Decoration and Design Building and the NYC Design Center, as well as visit museums like the Cooper Hewitt and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Additionally, all students attend a Broadway show and explore New York’s vibrant fashion and retail environment. After the visits, students have the opportunity to explore New York and do some shopping as well. The program is open to students from two majors: Fashion Merchandising and Furnishings and Interiors. The program includes visits to various fashion and design companies, museums, landmarks and shows. Students will also have the opportunity to network with professionals and peers from different backgrounds and perspectives. Students will earn 3 credits for TXMI 5710 or TXMI 7710.
